What is an Enthusiastic Event!?

A cross between a salon performance and a gathering at your best friend's home, Enthusiastic Events! bring renowned dance artists and prime movers from diverse fields together to meet our audience in an intimate setting. The masters share their creations, ideas, and methods, and we all are welcomed to discover and converse while mingling over delicious bites prepared by some of New York City's finest chefs.

Our Enthusiastic Event! Series offers audiences an extraordinary entree to dance, creation, passion, and connection.

Why Enthusiastic Events?

“I believe, in most all of us, there is natural enthusiasm for movement and dance. Speaking with artists --not in a huge, formal proscenium theater-- but in a small, friendly setting, like a home, can re-awaken our connection to dance and underscore its value to our culture.” says Christine Jowers, Editor of The Dance Enthusiast.

Who will be part of our Dance Enthusiast Event! Celebrating Dance As Empowerment?

We are thrilled to be hosting direct from Barcelona, Lucija Stojevic, the director and producer of a documentary film in the making La Chana. The film tells the passionate story of the brilliant self- taught gypsy artist La Chana, Antonia Santiago Amador, who was made famous after appearing with Peter Sellers in the 1967 film The Bobo. The artist, who quit dancing at the zenith of her career brings us into her world of creation and rhythm as she returns to the stage after 30 years triumphing over the obstacles of victimization and physical limitation through her art!

We are also proud to be hosting, David Leventhal, who received a 2010 Bessie (New York Dance and Performance Award) for his performing career with Mark Morris. Today as  the Founding teacher/Program Director for Dance for PD®, a collaborative program of the Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson Group, he leads classes for people with Parkinson's disease around the world and trains other teachers in the Dance for PD® approach. Since 2007, he has trained more than 600 teachers in the Dance for PD® approach in 25 cities around the world.  Leventhal, is featured in David Iverson’s recently released film Capturing Grace,a remarkable documentary that reveals the hopes, fears, and triumphs of the PD community as they work together with dancers to create unique, life-changing performance.

Featured Performers for the evening, will be internationally renowned Flamenco stars: Dancer, Sonia Olla and  Singer, Ismael de La Rosa Fernández.
