Kathryn Alter and Dancers, presented by Women in Motion NYC, premieres RETRACE on Saturday May 18 at 6:30pm and Sunday May 19 at 3pm and 5pm at AOS's Studio 3R Theater at 12 Saint Marks Place, 3rd floor, New York, NY 10003. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at www.artsonsite.org/tickets and at the door.

The audience is welcomed into Arts On Site for live performance juxtaposed with projected media. Framed by a shifting landscape of mobile set pieces, five dancers guide us through the piece, moving as an ensemble or splintering into smaller groups. Dancers’ bodies shift before the audience’s gaze, in one moment embodying natural landscapes, the next becoming deeply human.  RETRACE strives to find the reflection of the macro in the micro, build a communal structure, and see the natural world.

About Women in Motion NYC
Women in Motion is a volunteer-run organization whose mission is to foster female choreographers through commissioning, producing, and mentoring.  Founded in 2000, WIM has produced a diverse group of over 90 dance artists, and the list of once-emerging, now-established choreographers goes on. In addition to their annual concert performance, WiM hosts quarterly performance salons presented in non-traditional performance spaces throughout the city, offering female artists the opportunity to show work-in-progress in a supportive, intimate setting, intended to create a dialogue between artists and audiences. Women in Motion is directed by Melissa Riker and Amber Sloan.

KATHRYN ALTER is a choreographer, dancer, teacher, and musician.  Her choreography and performance have been seen around the world, most recently as part of the festival Soliloquios y Diálogos in Centro Cultural Los Talleres de Coyoacán in Mexico City, La MaMa Moves in New York City, the Kyoto Butoh Festival, and as part of the EstroGenius Festival at Cooper Union in New York City. Currently, Kathryn is a 2023/24 Women in Motion commissioned artist and a 2023/24 Eva Dean Dance AIR, and a 2024/25 Fulbright Scholar Grantee.  Her work endeavors to send and receive visceral messages, offering others a new way to see something they may already know and the opportunity to reimagine their humanity.  Long term relationships and collaborations are integral to her work.  She and her collaborator Ty Turley have been exploring the possibilities of the integration of dance and media and the creation of virtual (https://www.kathrynalter.com/be-coming) and performance installations. Upon completion of her MFA from Hunter College, Kathryn received the Chairman’s Award for artistic excellence in 2020. She was a member of the Limón Dance Company for 15 years and Program Director for the Limón Professional Studies Program for 5 years.
