"His dance creates a mourning reality where even the dead can be present.“ -- Neue Presse Hannover
Performing for the first time in the U.S......
Butoh legend Tadashi Endo, former student of Kazuo Ohno, includes No theatre, Kabuki, Occidental theatre, and Butoh in his extraordinary dances. He expresses the field of tension between Ying and Yang, the male and female, and the space in between, known as “MA”, where the observer can submerge themselves into a world beyond time and words.
One of the major developments in contemporary dance in the latter half of the 20th century, Butoh combines dance, theater, performance art, and influences of Japanese traditional performing arts to create a unique form that is both controversial and universal in its expression. Endo is currently director of the Butoh-Center MAMU and the Butoh-Festivals MAMU, based in Göttingen, Vienna.
Tadashi will also be teaching workshops for all levels of students June 25-28 at Outerspace Studios, 1474 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago.
The performance and workshops are subsidized by Butoh Chicago through 3Arts and your support is greatly appreciated. Consider donating today!
