Freeform Review:
Yeujia Low has just started her career in choreographing contemporary movement pieces, but it would not seem that way. I saw her piece, "Tough One," at Triskelion Arts in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. "Tough One" creates an instantly strong relationship between the audience and her four dancers, as each of the dancers brings out an item with which anyone may connect: a plant, a coin jar, a stack of books, and a birdhouse. Yeujia's personal performance of Philip Glass' "Mad Rush" can be seen and felt in every step by the elegant and highly connected dancers. As the piece unfolds, the music becomes a fifth dancer, flowing through Yeujia. Her presence onstage produces a poignant, symbiotic relationship between dance and music, a much-needed element in contemporary dance.
