Have you ever seen this company/ before?
Tell us a bit about your history with this group/performer?
I had never seen this company before and while I have been to the major dance venues in the past, I think this was my first at The Kitchen.
Why did you go to the show? What did you expect to see?
I was invited to see the show. Hearing that the dancers collaborated with outside individuals, including an architect, I was curious to see what that would bring to the evening.
What was your favorite moment(s)? What inspired you?
I liked the start of the "dance" Jennifer Lacey did with the folding chair. It took me a minute to realize that she was speaking to the chair and not "someone in the room". As an interior designer, how could I not enjoy someone dancing with a chair!! but on the other hand when she spent and endless amount of time making love to the chair, I found that to be to much.
Describe as plainly and as specifically as you can what you actually saw. We are going for description without judgement.
There is no need for complete sentences, phrases and word lists are fine. You can describe these elements or anything you can think of: the artists, the kinds of movement, the qualities of the movement, the use of the stage/space, the musicality/timing...
Wally Cardona moved through the space but did not seem to embrace the full potential of his ability to move. Jennifer Lacey embraced her dance movement more but still there was not from either an expression of their "joy of dance"
Do any images, colors or feelings pop into your head when you think about this show?
An opportunity missed
Describe any or all of these elements: music, lighting, the venue. - How did they contribute (or not) to your enjoyment of this performance?
The venue was a clean intimate space, giving you the opportunity to feel close to the dance in front of you, not the distant observer. The lighting suited the performance. The "music" ........
Would you like to see this performance / company again? Would you recommend it to a friend?
Why or why not?
I found the performance frustrating
What would you like to have seen more of? Less of?
The dancers seemed to be performing for themselves, especially Wally Cardona, I would have preferred if they had both reached outside of themselves more and worked to include their audience.
If you could, what would you ask the choreographer / dancers?
Why on earth did you end the evening with that beautiful screen to dance in front of and just leave us with an unending and boring color video?
