APRIL 2020'S STREAMING HIGHLIGHTS

English National Ballet - Akram Khan's Giselle
Available Saturday April 4th  on Marquee TV

Hailed as a modern masterpiece, Akram Khan's multi-award winning Giselle is a classic story of love, betrayal and redemption reimagined for the 21st century. Khan sets his Giselle amongst a community of migrant workers - desperate and dispossessed. In stark contrast, Albrecht’s traditionally courtly world is replaced by a privileged group of landlords and factory owners. In this harsh setting, Khan and ENB artistic director Tamara Rojo, starring as Giselle, bring new depth and strength to this revered classic.

Royal Shakespeare Company - Twelfth Night
Available Saturday, April 11th  on Marquee TV

From the creative team who brought us the highly popular and critically-acclaimed RSC productions of Love’s Labour’s Lost and Much Ado, comes this visually stunning and highly entertaining Twelfth Night. Director Christopher Luscombe, designer Simon Higlett and composer Nigel Hess have produced a triumph, and as a special event this month,

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) invites you to join a live 'watch along' from their living rooms on Saturday, April 11. Enjoy Twelfth Night, featuring Adrian Edmondson as Malvolio and Kara Tointon as Olivia, with viewers from around the world.

The production will premiere on Marquee TV on Saturday, April 11, with the watch-along starting at 2:15pm (EST).

The Royal Opera - Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci
Available Saturday April 18th on Marquee TV

Damiano Michieletto’s production was an Olivier-Award-winning hit. He sets both operas within the same village, allowing characters from one piece to reappear in the other and offering theatrical realism within visuals that are modern and yet timeless.

Batsheva Dance Company - Sadeh21
Available Saturday April 25th on Marquee TV

Sadeh21, danced by the Young Ensemble, is an ‘‘epic-dance expedition’’ and a “choreographic odyssey.” Watching these dancers is simultaneously mesmerizing and puzzling as they seamlessly move from balletic poses to animalistic ones - each contortion melting impeccably into the next. For creator Ohad Naharin, famous for his “Gaga” technique, this iis movement at its most raw. Stripped of all tricks and theatrical devices, this piece underscores the extraordinary emotional powers of dance.
