Green Tea Dances, An Environmentally Friendly Performance Experience with Jodi Sperling Time Lapse Dance and Emily Faulkner
|
Jody Sperling is the Artistic Director of Jody Sperling/Time Lapse Dance, Inc. She re-imagines, with contemporary touches, the work of early 20th Century pioneer Loie Fuller -the original experimental dance artist who was known for creating breathtaking magical illusions with fabric and light. Fuller actually gave Isadora Duncan one of her first breaks by asking her to join with her troupe of women in Europe. Later Isadora struck out on her own and the rest is history.
In addition to being attracted to Fuller’s work, Sperling likes circus lore, acrobatics, hula hoops - lots of props and color and spectacle. But Sperling has another more spartan side, which she revealed on October 20th at 3pm during one of her traditional afternoon tea dance soirees.
Also performing during this fun, low key, afternoon of dance, tea, and cakes were Arianne Anthony, as Eco-Evangelist-Shirley Sturm; Emily Faulkner, co-producer of the event with Sperling, who danced to the sounds in her head, actually a captivating score by Faulkner and Quentin Chiappetta; and, Jody Liss, who revived two solos by Isadora Duncan which were great to see in this very intimate salon environment.
It was a terrific way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I was especially pleased when my eight-year-old son told Jody and I that he wished he could have a tea dance for his next birthday party.
Plan to go to the next Green Tea Dance on November 10th at 3pm.
