Our 2021 Season Gala is a journey through the gorgeous grounds of Appleberry Farm inside the barn, the gardens, and the field. Join us at 5:00pm for cocktail hour featuring wine from Aquila's Nest Vineyards and picnic-style lite bites from Graze & Co. while enjoying the music of local CT artist Kielty Wintersteen. Gather around the garden for a site-specific pop-up performance and delight in the beautiful summer evening surrounded by nature. The premiere of Embedded Memories will begin promptly at 7:30pm, just before sunset. After the illuminated performance, join us for a twilight toast and sweet treats as we celebrate our community and their stories.
Embedded Memories is rooted in honoring personal histories through the lens of scars and their images which live permanently on, and inside of, our bodies. Investigating the memories and stories these imprints hold, we can learn from one another and promote community healing. Inspired by Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery while highlighting the areas of breakage, golden accents illuminate the stories through numerous lighted lanterns in the installation space and inventive light pieces affixed to the dancers’ bodies. This new piece is in collaboration with Allison Patrick of Aster + Quail with an original music composition played live by Glen Fittin.

Illumination Gala Tickets include an invitation for Coffee with the Choreographer, a 30-minute meet-up with Marisa (in-person or on Zoom) to ask questions, hear more about her creative process, or just chat!

Please Note: In response to recent updates by the CDC and its recommendations for COVID-19, Appleberry Farm requires that all seated audience members must be masked throughout the illuminated performance at sunset. Attendees will be encouraged to socially distance as possible during the event.
