RadioBody: Radiohead Danced and Played in Jazz
Company:
Rhythmically Speaking
RadioBody is a collaboration between Twin Cities-based jazz and American social dance company Rhythmically Speaking and composer Mike Lauer exploring the human toil and triumph and the jazz sensibilities found in the work of beloved alt-electronic band Radiohead: thanks to their rich, multilayered rhythms, unique harmonies and long-form jams, their songs are often covered by jazz composers and are conducive to jazz styling.
Together, Lauer and RS Artistic and Executive Director Erinn Liebhard—both Radiohead lovers—selected one song from each of their major album releases to explore. Lauer has composed original jazz renditions of each that will be played live by a quartet and danced during the show, which will also include original dance films, as well as live visual designs by multimedia artist Dawn Schot.
