Birth of the Modern: Martha’s Revolution
Primitive Mysteries and Heretic
In the late 1920s, Martha Graham’s radical ideas for dance burst on the scene. In a dance world that was filled with swans, princesses and escapist exotica, Graham brought stark, geometric reality to the stage.
We’ll screen two seminal modernist works from this transformational moment in dance, Heretic (1929) starring Martha herself, and Primitive Mysteries (1931) featuring footage from 1964 and 2017.
I’ll be in the live chat with Graham Archives Director Oliver Tobin - and hope you will be, too!
