Victorian photographer Alice Austen, was a bold, artistic rebel much like Isadora Duncan. Bring a lawn chair, or picnic blanket and enjoy!
About this event
At the beginning of 2021, cultural and preservation leaders met at the 9/11 Memorial Museum to discuss cultural institutions' response to the 20th anniversary and plan performances to provide our community with spaces to gather and reflect on the power of the arts in NYC to heal.
The Alice Austen House is thrilled to partner with Lori Belilove's Isadora Duncan Dance Company to present "As the River Flows", a new work-in-process that highlights the beauty of our waterways and creates a dialogue around climate change and waterfront sites. The Company of 8 dancers will also perform signature Isadora Duncan Dances that reflect lamentation and hope including “Mother”, “Slow March” and “Step Sisters” with music by Scriabin, Schubert, and Prokoviev, respectively
The Alice Austen House will join many other cultural institutions to light our building in blue and be exhibiting vintage Landmarks Commission photographs of Staten Island firehouses from September through December in our contemporary sunroom gallery.
