Every Day We Wake Up is an immersive, site-specific performance inspired by Seward Johnson’s sculpture The Awakening, the many histories of Hopewell Valley, and the land of St. Michael’s Farm Preserve.

Weaving together dance, music, storytelling, poetry, and community artmaking, this gathering considers memory, imagination, legacy, and nature. Featuring work by performing artists Michael J. Love, Tomia MacQueen, Sattriya Dance Company, Maiko Uchida, Ann Robideaux, donia salem harhoor, and more, this family friendly event celebrates the arrival of the monumental sculpture to Hopewell and begins a year of programming connected to it.

May 21, 2023 11am – 1pm

Open to all, Free of charge

Hosted by Hopewell Valley Arts Council and D&R Greenway. This event is part of Seward Johnson | Celebrating the Everyday, a year-long celebration hosted by the Hopewell Valley Arts Council and the Seward Johnson Atelier to honor the amazing life of the late Seward Johnson. The Awakening’s installation was made possible through a generous grant to the Seward Johnson Atelier from the Atlantic Foundation, a Johnson family foundation.
