Ballaro Dance presents "Embedded Memories"

A SUMMER SOIREE at The Compost Collective with Ballaro Dance:
Join us on Saturday, August 5 for an immersive evening of creativity, collaboration, and community presented in the garden at The Compost Collective (TCC) in Forest Hills! The evening features an illuminated dance performance of Embedded Memories by NYC-based Ballaro Dance.
More about the dance performance: Embedded Memories is an illuminated installation rooted in honoring personal histories through the lens of scars and their images which live permanently on, and inside of, our bodies. The piece investigates memories and stories these imprints hold; it centers on what we can learn from one another through the exchange of these stories and the powerful shared process that promotes community healing. Inspired first by Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery while highlighting the areas of breakage, golden accents illuminate these stories through numerous lighted lanterns in the installation space ranging in size from 6"-36" and inventive light pieces affixed to the dancer's bodies. Deeper connections to Japanese philosophy and the process of healing have been explored through additional research and experiences in Reiki and Butoh. The piece began as a collaboration with NYC-based artist Allison Patrick in February of 2021 and continues to grow and develop with each new performance of the work through contributions from the Community Imprints collection.
More about the event: The garden gate will open at 6:30pm. Upon arrival, attendees are invited to tour through the gorgeous landscape and a community scar exhibit featuring a site-specific dance performance by MOVE: Community Imprints participants to live cello by student musician and TCC volunteer, Nikash. At 7:30 pm, SEE the formal illuminated installation performance of Embedded Memories by Ballaro Dance at sunset. Post-show, audience members will SHARE in a “Twilight Toast & Sweet Treats" reception with the community and participate in a creative healing station to honor the scars of our community while leaving their own Community Imprint behind through a photograph, drawing, or written contribution.
