2020 Más Allá Series Concert
Company:
Flamenco Latino
After being disrupted this Spring by the Corona Virus, Flamenco Latino finalizes its 2020 Más Allá Series (“Way Beyond”) with a performance in collaboration with Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning. Directors Aurora Reyes and Basilio Georges offer a final free outdoor concert, which will also be streamed, in front of the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, 153-10 Jamaica Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11432, on Friday August 21, 2020 at 4:30-5:30 PM.
Their flamenco repertoire includes elements of jazz, blues and salsa featuring 6 dancers and 3 musicians. Choreographer, dancer and singer, Aurora Reyes is joined by the hip and dynamic tap dancer, Omar Edwards, and the electrifying and eclecticflamenco dancer, Jose Moreno. Original music by Basilio Georges authentically navigates the different styles of dance.
Featured is the Premiere of Aurora Reyes’ choreography, “Hand Me Down My Walking Cane,” based on themes from Elmore James and Koko Taylor, interweaving the flavor of blues and dance structure of tangos flamencos. The piece addresses how it feels to be treated unfairly in this world for being a woman. For this choreography, four of Aurora’s new promising corps dancers deliver a cathartic celebration of women’s strength and perseverance.
Dancers: Ra Ruiz, Natalia Starkova, Malia Vazquez.
