Journal to Journey is a 6-month program that culminates in a showcase performance of new solo works created by young poets. This year’s show titled Tattoo Me Human explores the definition of self-identity and the many ways to achieve it. These new solo works by young poets navigate a path through hurt and hope on a journey towards self. Equipped with pen as compass and journal as road map, they discover that life is full of moments that will carry you as far and deep as you are willing to go. Feature Poets: Nia Allen Lee, Aziza Barnes, Kedene McLeod, Diamond Wynn; Apprentice Poets: Marlon Cadore & David Fasayana; Multimedia Poets: Jesica Blandon & Christina Louis; and special appearance by Kristina Gramlich. Poets are paired with Writing Mentor Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai and Director/Choreographer Nicco Annan.
New York Live Arts and Urban Word NYC partner to support urban youth in their development of hybrid performance work for the stage. Now for the fourth year, this partnership includes the participation of a spoken word artist, Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai, selected by Urban Word, in the New York Live Arts Studio Series. Previous Urban Word NYC Studio Series artists are Darian Dauchan, Queen Godls, and Geoff Trenchard.
