Through Dance Place’s Creative Residency Program, join BIGKid Dance, a contemporary project-based company in Philadelphia who are embarking on developing their latest work in process, if I die before the revolution. The piece reflects on the devastating impact of the AIDS epidemic, exploring the anguish and helplessness experienced by queer individuals unable to care for or be with their dying partners. In memory of the untold stories and lives cut short, the work also offers an imaginative portrayal of survival, love, and solidarity within the queer community. The artist will have public engagements throughout the week to connect with community members.
BIGKid Dance is a group of gifted dance artists whose works are presented as live performances and films. Their work is primarily collaborative, involving an ever-changing and growing collective of artists from many different cultures, backgrounds, identities, practices, and artistic mediums. They want to unite people to broaden their worldly knowledge of humanity, culture, and experience, create community, and self-preservation in their field. With works rooted in the upheaval of childhood and trans-generational trauma, they hope to understand more about the human condition and spread love, care, hope, empathy, and light to those involved in their creations, those viewing them, and those around them.
