The show, titled Tapestry, celebrates the fabric of our Connecticut dance community. This performance includes the choreographic work of five university faculty members, two dance education program students, a consortium of university alumna, several professional dance companies, and performing arts high school guests. Besides celebrating the fabric of our community, Tapestry highlights the joy of dressing up to the nines and knocking its audience's socks off with breathtaking choreographic work.
Notable professional guest companies include:
- Jennifer Muller/The Works is a New York-based dance company that earned global recognition for its dynamic theatricality, virtuosity, and humanity- touring 39 countries on four continents.
- Ekklesia Contemporary Ballet is a professional dance company comprised of artist-theologians who aim to create spaces where art and faith can flourish.
- Island Reflections Dance Theatre is a dance company that centralizes educating the community about Caribbean Folk, Ballet, Modern Contemporary, African, and other world dance forms.
- Garet&Co is a professional contemporary dance company based in Northern CT that works to strengthen and celebrate the contemporary dance community in Connecticut.
Guest performing arts high schools include:
- Norwich Free Academy is a liberal arts education-focused institution that prepares young scholars for post-secondary education through specialty programs and the visual and performing arts.
- Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School provides a comprehensive arts and humanities curriculum to a diverse student body from New Haven.
- R.J. Kinsella Magnet School of Performing Arts offers comprehensive training, cultural exposure, and arts integration to make academic content relevant to its students' lives.
- Waterbury Arts Magnet School creates an environment where young people flourish and acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful leaders now and in the future.
