Ghost Bride features extraordinary scenic, lighting, sound, costuming and projection to depict the overpowering spell and eternal pain of unwanted destiny. The Ghost Bride story reflects the historical enlistment of women, expected to consent to binding themselves to a spiritual entity, and often too weak to resist powerful tradition or overcome desperation. The choreographer’s interpretation of Ghost Bride throws off the shackles of domination by demonstrating the transformation of womanhood toward self-determination. Throughout the presentation, the resonance of her personal journey to the evolution of women’s rights for self-determination is a primary theme. This performance illustrates a struggle between two dimensions, similar to the struggle of women for legal, political and economic equality throughout time, while still being respectful of their heritage.
