Emerging Choreographers Series 2024

Mare Nostrum Elements (MNE) presents an Emerging Choreographer Series Alumni Split Bill featuring ZOO! by Grace Yi-Li Tong and Robots Don’t Cry by Garrett Parker. MNE is a Woodside-based Dance and Theater non-profit dedicated to the expression of human experiences through dance, theatre and movement.

ZOO! (2024) by Grace Yi-Li Tong is a fun and feral illumination of memory, charade, and the unsaid in the Asian-American experience. A cacophony of “facedance”, voice, light, and systems of play, ZOO! is a recess fantasy woven from American nostalgia and diasporic dreams. Performed by seven, including Tong, ZOO! first premiered at Arts on Site in February 2023.

ROBOTS, DON’T CRY by Garrett Parker is a psychological thriller. It follows a team of scientists as they seek to use artificial intelligence to help humans, but then questions arise about whether humans should be helped – or replaced by AI.
