The Playground NYC allows dancers to experience various choreographic styles and ideas, engage with a new community of dancers, and gather resourceful information and inspiration from the array of choreographers involved. In turn, established choreographers are paid for their creative investigations, are given free space to explore new movements with professional dancers, and are provided with the opportunity to establish relationships with new dancers and fellow choreographers.
Class description:
States of Pleasure "...the way my body stretches to music and opens into response, hearkening to its deepest rhythms..."
— Excerpt from Audre Lorde's The Uses of the Erotic
We will move through the Seven States of Tension through a lens that prioritizes pleasure. So…
We will warm up together.
We will massage our muscles.
We will find ourselves moving through the states.
We will use props such as mesh body stockings, ropes, and feathers, to facilitate our play.
We will dance and stretch to good music by responding to what moves us.
