Ailey Extension
African culture is deeply interwoven into the history of Cuba and integral to its culture.
Derived from the African religion Yoruba, Afro-Cuban dance is linked to enslaved West Africans in Cuba who used music and dance as a form of self-expression. Practitioners of Yoruba believe in many different deities called orishas. Each orisha symbolizes a different part of our lives and each has a characteristic movement style represented in Afro-Cuban dance.
Join expert dancer, teacher, choreographer, dance ethnologist, and activist Danys “La Mora” Pérezand immerse yourself in Afro-Cuban culture and history.
Originally from Santiago de Cuba, Danys "La Mora" Pérez Prades is an internationally renowned master of Afro-Cuban folkloric dance.
