Ailey Extension presents Ailey Experience NYC, a beginner-friendly workshop designed to embody the diversity of the Ailey dancer by offering technique classes and introducing young participants to the exciting world of performance! From August 7-11 dancers ages 9-12 and 13-18 will explore choreography in a fun, non-competitive environment with their peers at Ailey’s home in the Joan Weill Center for Dance – New York’s largest building dedicated to dance!
Dancers of all levels will train with elite instructors, including former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater company members and professional New York City dancers for a full week of daily technique classes and rehearsals culminating in a final performance showing for friends and family.
Students will learn ballet, contemporary, Horton, jazz, hip-hop, West African, and more techniques as well as the rich history of Ailey’s signature style and how he changed the perception of American modern dance.
No experience is necessary, and all levels are welcomed!
