Through the Technical Residency Program, Dance Place Hosts Ananya Dance Theatre: ANTARANGA: Between You and Me

During their time at Dance Place, the company will be developing ANTARANGA: Between You and Me, the first work in a duology, and explores themes of intimacy, connection, trust, and community among BIPOC women/femmes.

ANTARANGA: Between You and Me is the first work in a duology, which explores themes of intimacy, connection, trust, and community among BIPOC women/femmes. This exciting piece is set in a world in deep crisis (much like our own) where most people have lost their ability to sense the energy of other human beings and can no longer recognize or connect with each other. A few humsafar (Urdu for “fellow travelers”) remain, blessed with super-connecting and heart-opening powers. As they undertake perilous journeys, they forge connectivities that may heal the world.

Ananya Dance Theatre is the leading creator of contemporary dance in the global arts and social justice movement. Invoking the dreams of BIPOC Women, Womxn, and Femmes, we radically reframe the ground on which we dance, inspiring our audiences through visual and emotional engagement.

Three public events are open to the public, and all are welcome.  These additional engagements include:

• Sunday, November 17: Spice Workshop @ 5-6:30 pm, Dance Place (Creative Education Center)
• Monday, November 18: Letter Writing Workshop @ 6:15-8 pm, Dance Place (Lobby)
• Tuesday, November 19: Informal Showing @ 6:30 pm, Dance Place (The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation Theater)

As part of the Letter Writing Workshop, participants will “write letters” to imagined ancestors and descendants, leaping their minds across time to connect with people who are part of us but who may seem very different from us. With participant permission, the letters created in these workshops can be strung together to create a connective spell, to be shared in the theater lobby for the performance.

Even though these events are free, RSVP to reserve your spot as the tickets will serve as your entry pass.
