VENICE, ITALY: Biennale Danza 2025 | International Call for a New Choreographic Creation
Company:
La Biennale di Venezia
The Biennale Danza renews its commitment to the art of choreography at the side of the younger generations, allocating resources to their creations. Until October 20th, on the website of La Biennale di Venezia (www.labiennale.org), the 2025 calls for two original choreographic works, the fourth Italian and the third international call, are online.
The two new projects that are selected will premiere at the 19th International Festival of Contemporary Dance (17th July > 2nd August) and will be supported by La Biennale di Venezia with a production grant of up to a maximum of 30,000 euro, a contribution that independently or in collaboration with other production partners will concur to the production of the new choreography. In addition to the production grant, La Biennale di Venezia will cover all the necessary costs for staging the premiere in Venice – from the artists’ fees to travel and lodging expenses and production specifications.
In order to participate in the selection, it is necessary to propose an original choreographic project which has never premiered either in studio or full form.
The documentation to participate in the selection — which must be submitted no later than October 20th 2024 via an online application form — consists of:
- description of the artistic project in English (max. 1 A4 page, front only), specifying any partners and their contribution to the coproduction
- link to video of 5-10 minutes max (which may include, by way of example, short dance clips, choreographic draft, discursive/explanatory part in English: anything that can best express the concept of the project).
The performance will make its debut (world premiere) as part of the Biennale Danza 2025.
The Artistic Director of the Dance Department, Wayne McGregor, will make the selection at his sole discretion, based on the materials submitted.
The outcome of the selection will be announced by the end of November 2024.
