Call for Queens-based Choreographers for Dance Astoria (DEADLINE: May 7, 2023)

Dance Astoria is seeking Queens-based choreographers for the 9th annual Dance Astoria festival held outdoors at Pig Beach BBQ Queens, in Astoria, NY. This year, the festival will take place from 2 - 5pm on Sunday, June 11th, 2023. Each year the dancers and choreographers blow us away with their artistry and profound work and we can’t wait to see what Queens is cooking up this year!
Queens’ residents are encouraged to submit choreography from all styles of dance including contemporary, classical, and cultural dance forms. We take pride in the diversity of dance that is presented each year at Dance Astoria - Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Contemporary, Contortion, Capoeira, Latin Dances and other Cultural Dances! The dance floor being used is a 15ft long x 10ft deep, oak wood dance floor supported by subflooring.
In case of rain, a rain date will be promptly announced. Works submitted can be no longer than 5 minutes, and please keep in mind, Dance Astoria is a family friendly event open to the public. Make sure your material and music are appropriate for children. There is no raised seating so we recommend limited floor work in order to ensure that you are visible to the audience.
There is no fee to submit, no fee to perform if accepted, and there are no ticket fees to attend. Dance Astoria is sponsored by local businesses so that we can continue to offer high-caliber dance to the public for free!
Choreographers may apply with previously performed work, or submit a proposal for a new piece. If submitting a previously performed work, please submit a YouTube or Vimeo link of this piece. For a proposal of new work, submit a video link of previously created work, along with a description of the new work (rehearsal footage is acceptable).
In order to apply, email the following information to DanceAstoria2014@gmail.com. Please also direct any questions about the festival or application process to this email. Incomplete proposals will not be reviewed or accepted. Submitting choreographers must be connected to the Queens community through residency, choreography, or dance education in some form.
Deadline to apply is Sunday, May 7th, 2023. Choreographers will be notified of acceptance by Sunday, May 14th, 2023.
